Neymar surpasses Pelé to make history, Brazil vs Bolivia player ratings

The Al Hilal star cemented his place in the record books with a decisive victory.

That moment seems to have passed. With a chance to surpass the almighty Pelé as Brazil's top goal scorer, Neymar took the lead. He missed, firing a tame shot straight at Guillermo Viscarra moments after his slow penalty take.

It turns out that Neymar's promotion will only be delayed by minutes, not days or weeks. The Brazilian star is currently the player who scores the most goals for Brazil. History, that night, was written.

With his 78th goal, Neymar surpassed Pele's scoring record to become the best player in the Selecao before scoring his 79th goal later. The key moment came in a lopsided 5-1 win over Bolivia, a win that gave Brazil the perfect start to their World Cup qualifying campaign.

But it's not just Neymar. To be honest, Al Hilal might not even be Brazil's best striker. Rodrygo earned those honors, scoring twice while assisting on another. Meanwhile, Raphinha was also excellent at scoring when he assisted Rodrygo in scoring the first goal. It was a dominant attacking performance, as expected for Brazil, but it will prove memorable thanks to Neymar, who currently tops the scoring charts.

GOAL rates Brazil's players from the Estadio Estadual Jornalista Edgar Augusto Proenca

Goalkeeper & Defence

Ederson (6/10):

100 percent pass accuracy, which is about all he had to do for most of the game. Had to make two late saves, and may feel he could have done better on the goal.

Renan Lodi (6/10):

Perhaps should have drawn a penalty early on, but got no call. Was fairly quiet other than that.

Marquinhos (6/10):

Not quite as noticeable as his defensive partner, but he didn't have to be as Bolivia never threatened

Gabriel Magalhaes (7/10):

Very good on the ball and mopped up when needed. Solid performance from the Arsenal star.

Danilo (6/10):

Got forward better than Lodi, creating a few decent chances from the right-hand side.

Midfield

Bruno Guimares (8/10):

A monster in the midfield. Didn't misplace a pass across his 71 minutes, creating two chances while winning the ball back several times. A complete performance.

Casemiro (7/10):

Good, but not quite as good as Guimares. No shame in that, though, as he helped keep Bolivia relatively quiet.

Attack

Rodrygo (9/10):

A dominant display from the Real Madrid man. Got two goals and set up another in a pretty clear Man of the Match display.

Neymar (9/10):

Missed the penalty, but was very good other than that. But all that mattered was the goal, and he went out and scored it while also adding an assist.

Raphinha (8/10):

Great finish after Neymar's assist. Will be a bit overshadowed by the other two, but still good.

Richarlison (6/10):

A very peaceful day for a Tottenham player. Only had 15 touches of the ball in total and was never really involved as the other strikers around him were so excited.

Submarine and manager

 Mathéus Cunha (6 /10):

I arrived with about 20 minutes left and didn't start as the game got out of hand.

Joëlinton (6/10):

He replaced teammate Guimares in midfield but missed his only big chance

Caio Henrique (6/10):

He was at least partly at fault for the goal when he failed to stop Victor Abrego's run.

Roger Ibanez (N/A):

Arrived late to replace Gabriel.

Gabriel Jesus (N/A):

A few minutes appeared when Rodrygo was pulled out to celebrate a job well done.

Fernando Diniz (7/10):

It's hard to screw up, but I did it right that day. I can't complain much after such a lopsided victory.
